Kathy Dalwood
My sculpture, both on a large and small-scale, centres around the process of casting applied through the media of plaster and concrete. A combination of abstract and figurative, a key feature of my work is that I often cast directly from real objects and materials.
Plaster Bust Collection
A 21st century re-interpretation of the historical portrait bust.
The collection is a contemporary response to the traditionally sculpted figurative statues and busts of the 18th and 19th centuries, but rather than sculpting in clay or stone, the busts are made by direct casting from real things.

SETSQUARES concrete relief tiles & friezes
Each of these collections comprises 6 - 8 different designs conceived to be placed in multiple orientations across a given surface.
Some collections have a Modernist, abstract aesthetic, one is inspired by 1970s psychedelia, another is made by direct casting from flattened packaging and others are created to client brief and reference historic, indigenous architecture and design.
Setsquares are available to bespoke order.

Public Sculpture Friezes
Two large concrete frieze installations - one a Cardiff shopping centre, one in the foyer of new Welsh hospital - were created by direct casting from real objects.
The imagery was inspired by the history, people and architecture of the location. The motifs were indented to the frieze surface, creating a negative image of the original object.
