Vivien Blackett

London

I trawl through images taken from a variety of sources both contemporary and historical, on art, medicine, botany, alchemy and science. I am interested in the frescoes and the predellas of early Renaissance painting and the illusion of texture. My drawings continue to be an important and playful part of my research for the paintings and I use them to experiment with connections, scale, illusion and meaning. Despite the disparity of the various elements, I am trying to suggest a logic or connectivity which questions the nature of appearance and our experience of the world. In my earlier work I was working on composite panel paintings but recently I have gone back to working on single panels.
