"Art as prophetic voice" is core to my practice. My work, informed by my faith, sense of vulnerability, bereavement, and my personal experience, centres on addressing social justice issues of the human condition. Art as prophetic voice encompasses an exploration of art, theology and social justice; and the tripartite dialogue between them. Such enquiry and exploration is undertaken using a practice based approach; indeed thinking through making is key to my ongoing practice. Art as prophetic voice encompasses my core, being and concerns. By “prophetic voice” I mean speaking out, raising questions. While art is fundamental to who I am, if I am not making art I am somehow diminished, I am not fully me. Thus “art as prophetic voice” encapsulates these multiple layered concerns. I believe that artists see the world differently, so I seek to share some of that other perspective in my work. My practice is largely lens-based, working with both still and moving images.
