Ewa Konior
In my works I concentrate on human inner life issues trying to understand the aspects of soul, morality, and faith. Since I have become absorbed in Christian spirituality, my attitude towards creating has changed enormously. It has become a kind of prayer, contemplation striving for inner peace. The more time I have spent on reflection, the more I have begun to feel an increasing need to appreciate the beauty of the soul and its complex states.
My works are to some extent a symbolic reflection of this desire, both by showing the inner landscape of thoughts and feelings, as well as specific portraits of people with whom I identify and empathize. Through the perspective of my christianity, I explore the issues between a woman and a man from the outside in and inside out, with a particular approach to their intimacy and marriage relationship.
During my creative process, I blur the line between reality and the inner experience of my portrayed models, using symbols, surreal locations and abstract elements. I use diverse layers which often lay on each other, melt and synergize. They also have the role of playing with the viewer, exposing and revealing a story shown in the picture. Despite the figuration, I analyze the work in an abstract way, paying attention to the freshness of the composition, the essence of colour and form, reflecting on their mutual interaction.
