RUTH MIEMCZYK

SCARBOROUGH
I make 2 dimensional, wall hung work that is painting, drawing, collage and printmaking.

Painting is for me a visual language and is experienced as such through its colour, shape, space, scale and through its visible processes. I work in an improvisatory way, staying alert to the different stages in the life of a painting, allowing the accidental or unintentional to influence my decisions. Through the painting process, personal histories and associations emerge and also affect the direction a work proceeds. I want to create a purely visual dialogue and with this in mind I have been making paintings and drawing/collages that deliberately make reference to each other, sometimes by a mimicking repetition and sometimes by being divided or separated. I am particularly drawn to the diptych form and this dominates much of my current work. I am conscious of the connection to the universal themes of duality and unity but don't deliberately set out to explore this.
