Naomi Aderonke

Wakefield
Naomi Aderonke is a lover of history, folk tales and horror stories. Looking at how non-fictional context reflects itself in the fictional storytelling and how it can be recontextuallised though ceramics, print and textiles.

Naomi Aderonke is a Multidisciplinary artist from Wakefield who works primarily in ceramics.

The primary part of Naomi’s practice is research based, with a focus on history. They like to look  at how the marginalisation and mistreatment of the working class, women and animals is reflected in the tales, stories and myths from those times.

Their non-fictional research has recently been focused on the history of Wakefield's long lost pottery era alongside Ancient Cretan Pottery from the Minoan Civilisation. This breath of research mimics Naomi’s passion for a variety of historical periods both national and international.

While their fictional research has focused on local folk tales and horror stories of Yorkshire's west and coastal region. Learned through local historians and story tellers.

The secondary, more commercial side of their practice, uses the research of non-fictional, historical ceramics to create pieces that reflect lesser known time periods. Allowing people to learn more about different points of historical ceramics. These small ceramic objects are a reflection of the oral history Naomi shares of the lesser known historical periods and places.
