Alison O’Neill's video works seek escape routes into an imaginary world via the overlooked and the mundane. She uses everyday objects such as bin bags and discarded packaging as video containers. They are brief, looped works where nothing much seems to happen. Silently flickering and barely moving they are short, fleeting moments destined to repeat forever.
Alison O'Neill lives and works in Cambridge, UK. She gained her BA in Fine Art from Falmouth College of Art in Cornwall and her MA in Feminist Theory and Practice in the Visual Arts from the University of Leeds, where she studied under Griselda Pollock.
Recent screenings and exhibitions include Bridge Video, Chicago (2023), SFSA Drawing Open at No Format Gallery in London (2023), Artist-Parent Pandemic Video and New Genres, at the CAA Annual Conference in New York (2021), Open Out at The Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh (2019), The Birth Rites Collection Shortlist Screenings at The Whitworth Gallery, Manchester and King's College London (2018), The Art of Surrender at The Stills Centre for Photography, Edinburgh (2018) and Quickening at The Nightingale Cinema, Chicago (2017).
Alison's work is currently supported by a DYCP grant from Arts Council, England (2023-24).
