Clare Petherick

Peckham, London
I am a multi disciplinary artist, and my work is representational. More recently I have started to work with found images, altering books and weaving a new type of narrative through my work. I also draw and paint directly on site.

Drawing/painting on site plays a major role in my practice. I am based in London, however I have a strong connection with North Devon where I grew up. More recently and as part of an artists residency I have been creating site specific installations, altered books and objects.

The passing of time and my relationship with both Devon and London play a big role in my work. Fragility and process are all themes I touch on. My work is in turn filmic and otherworldly. I work in series which allows me to immerse myself, creating my own very personal interpretation of the world around me.

My starting point is the discovery of a place. I then build a relationship with it through sound, smell, atmosphere and light. The materials I use and mark making are unique to each project, therefore my research at the start of a project is usually painstaking.

For more information about my work, published reviews, exhibitions and my wordpress website please follow the links at the bottom of this page.
