David Booth
I am inspired by material, process, context - especially site-specific and thrive in the challenge of responding to a space. This can result in the creation of large, ephemeral works which are created onsite.
I believe in the importance of nurturing and encouraging the ability to reinvent. Evolving is a vital life skill - offering resilience, growth, escape, survival. I want my art to bring truth into being. For the display of the art to perform a kind of phenomenology so that it reveals something in such a way that the viewer understands it more perspicuously than they did before.
My work often references reinvention by deliberately exploring transformative ways of using and manipulating a material - in doing so I endeavour to challenge my viewers to see new ways to look and expands possibilities in an expressive gesture in order to recapture ambiguity that is present in pre-reflective experience and allows us to see the world afresh. I want to render visible something that is taken for granted with our lived experience of how we encounter things and for my work to carry expressive meaning that resonates.
A multi-disciplined Fine Artist, Booth's work encompasses sculpture, painting, digital, photography and drawing. The connection is his instinctive use of materials. His work draws on different aspects to layer his work - personal experience, phenomenology, site speci?c, context - and Booth's broad practice allows him to select how to respond. Booth has exhibited nationally in galleries and artfairs; Booth has been selected for residencies, collaborations, commissions and delivered for several arts organisations Arts Council projects and curators. Selected by curators to exhibit at Venice Biennial, Art and Archictecture 2020.
