Delphi Campbell

Cardiff
I am a crippled, mad and queer artist/researcher working out of Cardiff. I make interactive soft-sculptures and installations alongside my PhD research which is exploring how textiles have been used in queer and Disabled activism.

My practice exists as a (somewhat) absurd guide to myself; I view all my work as self-portraiture, each piece demonstrating some small facet of my being. My objects reflect my life on an intersection, the raw and ravaging experiences of being a crippled, mad, and queer woman, but also the unbridled joy and love that exists within these identities, and communities. While my work stems from my personal lived experiences, it also considers the socio-political frameworks that uphold oppressive systems, aiming to confront the limited and hegemonic portrayal of bodies like mine in popular culture.

My relationship with chronic illness is at the core of my work; sickness and queerness align, to embrace multiple illnesses in forms that may superficially appear as fun and frivolous, but aim to be a more radical challenge in confronting the narrative of living in an othered body.

Lived Experience

Queer from birth and Disabled from my teenage years, much of my practice is dedicated to exploring the experiences these loving communities have brought me. I am six years sober, a cat parent, and lover of pastry.
