Donna Coleman

Leeds
Artist exploring psychological states and Caribbean Identity through drawing and sculpture.

Donna Coleman is a Leeds based artist, with a practice focused on expressionist drawing. She explores the human condition using her own life experiences. She experiments with mixed media on paper, cardboard and wood. Recently she has been experimenting with combining drawing with sculpture, using found materials.

Donna is a member of the Serf Leeds Artist studio.

In 2020, Coleman started an ongoing series of drawings about the effects the global pandemic and lockdowns have had on the public’s mental wellbeing. Many of us have felt scared, isolated and disconnected from each other, causing anxiety, depression and dissociation. She wants the viewer of her work to recognise the shared vulnerability we are all experiencing during these unprecedented times.

Coleman has exhibited her work at Left Bank Leeds, PS Mirabel Gallery, Air Gallery in Manchester and the Mental Health Museum in Wakefield. Her work has also appeared in publications, including Root-ed Zine, based in Liverpool. In 2020 her work was acquired by the Government Art Collection.

Caribbean Dreamscape

What's my Identity?

A dark past, makes a messy future.

Just think happy thoughts

Fault Lines

The Prussian Blues

Some parts are missing

Empty

Between blue and grey

The quietness

It's too dark
