JMCAnderson

Norwich
Artist, Community Curator and Facilitator.

JMCAnderson is an Artist, Community Curator and Facilitator underpinned by her socially engaged practice; to share experiences and to co-work with communities to investigate identity, place and belonging. Anderson uses text, audio, paint and performance within her artwork to convey narratives and stories, with recent work reflecting on the duality of her own mixed heritage. Language is used both visually and linguistically to explore both contemporary societal issues and celebrations. She is interested in collective thinking, where people from the past and present become the medium or material of the work to raise awareness, educate and encourage conversations.

Anderson has been an Associate Curator for 'We: You, Me' exhibition (2017) and Programme Assistant (2019-2020) at Firstsite, Creative Associate for ‘Every Step Is A Different Height’ directed by Artists Lone Twin (2021 - 2022), Exhibition Curator for town-wide climate exhibition ‘Manifesto’ with Collusion (2022) and is currently the Coordinator for youth led charity Young Norfolk Arts Trust.  She has facilitated an array of activities with co-creation at the forefront and has had projects commissioned such as ‘I Am…’ as part of Norfolk & Norwich Festival (2021), ‘In transit, our memory fragments’ at Chelsea Space, London (2022), ‘Culture Connects’ at PRIMEYARC, Great Yarmouth (2022) and is currently an IN-SITU emerging Artist nominee (2023).
