Katrina Cowling

London
Katrina Cowling (b. Bradford, UK) is an artist currently studying for her three-year Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Academy Schools in London. She was appointed the Kenneth Armitage Sculpture Fellow from 2021 - 2023.

Katrina's intuitive and playful practice moves between sculpture, installation, kinetics, drawing and writing. She is a trained neon-bender and maker of light.

Her work centres around vulnerability, failure, absurdity and pathos; and how these affective registers can be communicated through objects. She likes to make things that feel vital, alive; generating a visceral, empathic and often melancholic response in the viewer. Hinged upon chance encounters alongside intimate study, her sculptural process foregrounds material agency.
