Rachel Gibson

Carlisle
A Cumbrian based artist whose practice focuses on the natural world using painting, drawing, print, artists books and animation.

'Rachel Gibson's work reflects an intuitive connection with experience and memory. Using references from the natural world, she explores the perception of nature as an entity which exists on the edge, treading a delicate balance between creation and destruction, growth and loss.

'Other Worlds' is a new body of work developed in animation, photography, text and Artists Books as well as drawing and painting. Here imagery shifts between the subatomic and the planetary universe, reflecting imaginary echoes of the struggle between chance and determination.

Rachel's imagery often involves complex combinations of media. Through layering, erasing, drawing and redrawing each piece carries its own history, expressing a link between thought, experience and memory and all the uncertainties in between.

Rachel Gibson is an artist who lives and works in Cumbria.
