Sofia Fox Barton

My work is a celebratory act of visual reclamation- a blend of traditional South Asian aesthetics, folklore and contemporary storytelling. By scaling and reimagining fragments of history into bold paintings, cyanotypes, prints, and public murals, I weave a line between the past and modern society.

With a background in documentary photography, and a social arts practice that explores hidden histories and diverse heritage, I lead projects that produce communal murals and public artworks. Heavily inspired by nature and wellbeing, my workshops intertwine grounding techniques and are neurodiverse friendly. 

Driven by a dedication to intersectional feminism, anti-racism, and LGBTQIA+ visibility, my practice uses radiant, defiant colourful palettes and distinct black outlines inspired by my Punjabi heritage to illuminate "hidden histories". My goal is to give a platform to marginalised voices, celebrate regional identity, and spark a shared sense of joy, equity, and belonging.
