Tim Martin makes and shows work through engagement and collaboration with others. He also curates exhibitions and since 2014 has run Hestercombe Gallery in Somerset

Tim Martin’s practice currently involves making and showing work through engagement and collaboration with others. He has curated exhibition programmes for over 15 years and in 2014 set up Hestercombe Gallery in Somerset with the aim of presenting national and international work in the reclaimed spaces of Hestercombe House, whilst also developing a residency programme.

Recently curated exhibitions have included: Terrain: Land into Art, (2016) work by 17 artists including Gary Hume, Peter Doig, Anya Gallaccio, Richard Long, Hamish Fulton and Simon Faithfull. ‘Leaping the Fence’, (2014) works by 16 artists including Tracey Emin, Mark Wallinger, Gavin Turk and Mark Quinn; Tania Kovats ‘Oceans’ as well as showing works from both Chris Ingram’s and Jeremy Cooper’s renowned collections. In 2016 he also curated ‘New Dimensions’ at The Museum of Somerset as well as ‘Combat Art – Reflections of Afghanistan’, London in 2015.

Martin’s curatorial practice overlaps with the making of work. He is concerned with the natural world and man’s relationship to it with inspiration being drawn from journeys made in the landscape, specific sites or issues. Recent activity has included: ‘Skills Unearthed’, Cotley, Somerset, 2013; ‘Community Means?’ Hemyock, Devon, 2013-4; ‘Palaces and Cabins’, Salisbury Art Centre, 2014; as well as contributing to the artists magazine ‘Hive’.
