I am a contemporary British artist exploring ideas about homeland, landscape and belonging. My practice is comprised of photography complemented by sculpture and painting.

I am a contemporary British artist exploring ideas about homeland, landscape and belonging. My life has swung between coming from one place and being in another; or being one thing and then becoming another. A common human experience. Nostalgia, sentiment and pathos are all understood in my work. It is centred on the lyrical potential of photography to explore our relationship with places of origin and passage of time - to reconcile who we are with where we come from. My photography is complemented by sculpture and painting.

My work has been exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal West of England Academy, The London Group and the National Army Museum. I am a Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors.

I graduated with a MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography from the London College of Communication in 2019 and a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in 2005.

I was born into a North London family with a strong artistic tradition. Both my parents and all four grandparents were artists. One grandfather, Norman Wilkinson, developed Dazzle camouflage during the First World War and the other, Hugh Pawle, was a stained-glass artist at the A.K. Nicholson studio. My parents met while studying at the Byam Shaw Art School. Other family members included the St Ives artist Margaret Mellis and the potter Anne Stokes.

Growing up in this environment, I turned away from the chaos of the art world and pursued first a military and later a business career before going to art school. This unconventional path led me to explore work concerned with the journey of personal history and ties to place evoked in landscape. I ask how these places remain within us, and whether art can help reconcile us with who we are and where we belong.
