Anemones (La Guerche)

By  Sam Lee 2011 - 2012

Installation at the Chateau de la Guerche, france. second time i have shown this art work and with new parts. Beautiful sand stone colour of the Chateau guards room. Sometimes if mariners are lucky they will witness an extraordinary and surreal Ocean Bloom in which the sea will glow in the night time as the sea algae multiplies in huge numbers. Blooms can vary in colour and form, often beautiful and sometimes harmful. This installation/sculpture is a reflection of nature with its strange and powerful ability to proliferate and invade an area, to transform an object, to create intense colours, vast or minute forms and to ultimately overwhelm. It is also a playful reflection of the process of beachcombing and the many hours I have spent picking up shells, stones and objects found on the coast. Is it the ordinary and most mundane, details that often go unnoticed that are perhaps the most vital and extraordinary of all. In a world often defined by personal power, celebrity obsessions and the love of money we are set adrift, lost in the crowd but yet surly we are all connected by the surreal and miraculous power of nature.
