Appelency

This painting, oil and egg tempera on linen, shows a room with dissolving walls, curtains and fancy furniture. A woman and two girls are gazing out of the window. Appelency is an old word meaning longing or desire. There is a feeling of lassitude and melancholy, even though the room is predominantly red hinting, perhaps, at hidden desire.
