Bear Witness: The Lie of the Land

By  Andrew Howe 2019

Film still by Jill Impey

A short 20 min film produced by artists Jill Impey and myself for Cinderloo 1821 during 2019. The film was funded by a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The film explores the story of the Cinderloo Uprising, Shropshire’s Peterloo, which took place almost 200 years ago in Old Park, Dawley. Echoes of the events of 1821 can be found in the landscape of today, which has undergone tremendous change with the impact of heavy industry followed by the development of Telford New Town. Responses to the Cinderloo story and changing landscape are gathered from several different voices of local people, poets and specialists in ecology, local history and industrial heritage. The film formed part of a wider public engagement and work in schools.
