“Beech Leaf Study”.

By Tim Pugh 2023
The artwork is a temporary pencil and charcoal sketch of a shrunken beech leaf drawn on a tree at Ramsgill Wood, near Cleator Moor in West Cumbria . I used the smooth treetrunk bark as a canvas in which to explore drawing out the form with its intricate curves and forms. I used compressed charcoal and an eraser in which to create the three dimensional forms within the leaf and after photographing the drawing left the artwork to fade away naturally.
