Birth

Artwork made at the Women and Mud Symposium, Arreciado, Spain. Strands of straw are attached to the wall using red mud from the land. Associations include plants, growth, shoots, arrows, weapons store, blood, gore, penetration, piercing, the straw glowing a bright white in direct sunlight or very subtly in the shadow. The works in the shadowy sheep barn glowed quietly from the walls and called to mind cave paintings or religious frescos. Broadly speaking, I used the mud to support the straw, or as a glue, a reference to the idea that all things are supported by and depend upon the earth and nature.
