Rocks and Hay

Residency installation at Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts, Wyoming, USA. This was my first response to the open landscape at the foot of the Medicine Bow Forest and within the land of an exclusive 'Dude' ranch hotel. The rocks provide a platform or resting place for the strands of hay/grass which rest tenderly against their contours. There is a parallel with the real landscape consisting mainly of rocky outcrops and grassland. Shadows unexpectedly form on either side of the rocks reading as wings, insects taking to the air or balloons rising in the wind, making the rocks fly. Also there is a reading of glowing, blushing, perhaps embarrassment as each naked strand is thrown into relief.
