Blue tent

Blue tent is another in the series of paintings on paper that I have made for the interior of a tent. They are primarily in order to raise awareness that the current crisis of displaced persons across Europe has not come to an end. At first the palette for the series has been quite subdued – ochres, chalk, kaolin and charcoal. But having resisted the characteristic bright blue of the tarpaulin that many of the shelters were wrapped in, it suddenly seemed right to get out the seldom-used jar of lapis Lazulae. It is almost exactly the right hue.

Ancient Garden Vision on the Archeologists Container

Blue Bubble 1

This is a painting of two layers relating to the experience and limitations of communication via Skype. The shadowy 'figure' is trapped behind a screen, obscured by the pointillist/divisionist dots of light. The colours suggest a nocturnal view, dominated by orange, which reflects of the ubiquitous colouring of the sodium vapour streetlamp.
