Blustery

This painting was inspired by memories of childhood trips to Wales in autumn — the colour, the changing weather and the feeling of being surrounded by the landscape.

The painting was discovered through layers of previous work and new marks, with memories gradually emerging through the surface. The fiery oranges brought back those autumn landscapes and a sense of those early experiences of Wales.

Rather than depicting a particular place, the work is about the feeling of returning to a landscape remembered from childhood.
