Bulwell JSC Phase One - People in the Landscape

Bulwell Riverside Centre (2009-2011) 3x 1.5m x 1.5m photo quality dibond panels A three-year, three-phase Photographic residency, commissioned by Nottingham City Council. Working alongside the community of Bulwell who will be effected by the building of the new Riverside centre, and those involved in its design and construction, Faye Chamberlain created a record of the site of the new Joint Service Centre in Bulwell, Nottingham.. These images combine both the current environment of the site and also the people who are making the project possible. The photographs serve as a historical document as well as a celebration of those who are investing their time and lives into the regeneration and rejuvenation of Bulwell. Portraits and resonant objects have been montaged into the landscapes. This layered effect, and the hyper-real look to the images, indicates a sense of the anticipation of something that has not yet begun, alongside the history of that which has taken place. The aluminium onto which the artworks have been printed is intended to reflect the engineering element of the future building project. Phase one was entitled 'People in the Landscape', phase two 'Demolition and Displacement' and phase three 'The People and The Place'. To the right hand side of each stage are details of flora and fauna photographed from around the Bulwell Bogs area adjacent to the Riverside centre. This is an extension of the thematic concept for the artwork, which celebrates the river Leen and the nature that thrives from it. The artworks are now permanently exhibited within the centre, which opened in early 2012.
