Burning anger

By  Klaire White 2021 - 2022

Textile wall hanging

Free machine embroidery using recycled clothing, bedsheets, and other recycled fabrics.

This piece began as a story about a witch burnt at Seaton Sluice and prosecuted by Lord Delaval. I began thinking about power and how women have consistently been powerless in the face of authority and how powerless I had felt in the face of the medical sector. Women are no longer physically burnt but they are metaphorically burned and judged by others in positions of power. It’s a complex piece about the past and present and how women are still judged.
