Cardiff Market
I took this photograph on 35mm film in Cardiff Market less than a year before the pandemic. It shows a woman standing, talking to a female butcher at her stall, illuminated by a soft pink glow from the familiar butchers lighting. There was something quiet and intimate about the moment, just two people in conversation in the middle of a bustling market that once probably felt much busier.
As I watched them, I kept thinking about how much is being lost. With self checkouts and online shopping becoming more common, places like this are growing quieter. The small conversations, the familiar faces, the sense of community that used to be part of daily life are slowly disappearing. This photo captures more than just light and colour. To me, it captures what we stand to lose when convenience replaces connection.
