The sculpture is inspired by the movement of a BMX ‘catching air’ as it takes off from a quarter pipe in an action sequence reflecting the stunts performed at the nearby bike & skate park. The construction also echoes the locomotive engineering history of Newton Heath. The theme was generated in discussion with the Neighbourhood Regeneration Team and the Friends of Brookdale Park Community Group, then developed in art workshops at Briscoe Lane Primary School, two youth centres & in open consultation with local people at an outdoor display by Adrian in the park.
