By  Debby Akam 2017
Christl A video installation at Penrith Old Fire Station Part of C-Art ‘Extraordinary Places’ 9th- 17th September, 10 – 5pm   Christl is a collaboration by Debby Akam, Gary Power, Phoebe Power and Michael Hedges. Developed from archive recordings of Christl Power (the mother of one of the artists), the artwork uses poetry, sculpture, video and sound in an immersive multi-voiced narrative.   Christl’s revealing account of her life includes references to war, her marriage and feelings of displacement on leaving her home country of Austria to live in the UK. The installation includes a film documenting a ritualistic response to this material in which 240 candles are lit around a figure standing within a willow structure.   Video 25 minutes, multi-channel audio Penrith Old Fire Station, Bridge Lane, Penrith CA11 8HY
