Clémentine

Clémentine was one of three cast glass sculptures made for Itinérance, 2001, an international touring exhibition of work by artists from the exhibition Méssagers de la Terre, 2000, curated by RUR'ART, near Poitiers, France. Both exhibitions explored the representation or the human figure. Clémentine is an organic fragment, a visceral form which evokes the vulnerability of the body. Fixed in glass, it prompts the viewer to think about the ways in which we perceive and idealise the body into a unified whole in an attempt to deal with the frightening thought of the body as temporal and ever changing matter.
