Clytemnestra One

Clytemnestra committed outrageous crimes, nevertheless within the fantasy of myth, she can arouse sympathy. Lock-down Zoom courses in Greek Drama and Myth influenced recent work and in this painting the reference is to Clytemnestra in “Agamemnon” by Aeschylus.
The painting emanates from concepts of both retribution and catharsis as an outcome of dramatic tragedy.
The pattern is derived from the remains of a fresco to be seen in the archaeological museum of Mycenae the supposed seat of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra.
Red, as customary, suggests both blood and fury.
Oil on Deep Canvas.
