According to myth Daphne was changed into a Laurel bush while resisting rape by Apollo.
The seventh of a series of Daphne paintings, it is part of continuing body of work that plays with the paradoxical practice of visualising the impossible which painting reveals. It dissolves the familiar narrative, the solidified metaphor, opening up other meanings and feelings.
This painting reversed the juxtaposition of surface textures of previous Daphne paintings and used more sombre colouring.
