As with many of Thomas's paintings ‘Common Whitlowgrass, Close In, Smyth Street’ presents a plan view perspective of a patch of urban wild vegetation. In this piece, the viewer is invited in close, to a surface that navigates paint and plant, where specificity and visual ambiguity brush along in close proximity.
This painting was acquire by The Manchester Contemporary Art Fund for the Manchester Art Gallery permanent collection.
