Constable, a painting of a reproduction.

made for an exhibition about illusion, this is a trompe l'oeil painting intended to trick the eye with its apparent 3D frame; in fact it is a flat panel. the reproduction is ancient and faded to cyan blue but retains the qualities that make it such an appealing image.the interest for me is in the enduring appeal of images even when degraded and vestigial; here I attempt to revive its flatness as a reproduction by re-rendering it faithfully as an oil painting, thus creating yet another unique object.
