Couture, 2019

Carl Fox Photography

Overviews of London studio installation, a series of work created through the year 2019. Part of the ongoing COUTURE project. Here, the artist explored further drawing through stitching, reconfiguring plain stitches used for mending, joining and finishing household linen. The artist has used fabrics from her parent's home in France. These fabrics are powerful sensory connections and cultural referents that recall her French childhood and her family's working-class life. Her favourite, the Provencal printed fabric, is a printed cotton with a single floral pattern - originally imported to France from India, then manufactured in Provence often used in quilted Provencal fabric and traditional costumes.
