The temporary artwork was created at Borwick Rails in Millom,West Cumbria as part of my participation in the artist in residence post /project.As part of the project, all artists prior to commencement were instructed to undertake a lifeboat journey to gain a flavour of the landscape and environment. I was interested in hearing the stories of constantly shifting and changing sands and how they determine when and where the locations the inshore lifeboat can access. In response,I created a map based on the current sandbanks located in the Duddon Estuary.I found a fishing bag on the beach and drew out the sand shapes which I then painted in with a mixture of sand and water.Situating and photographing the artwork was tricky due to the breezes but occasional calm spells meant I could document the artwork with the estuary in the background.
