Emergence

By Nick Malone 2015
The 'Emergence' series draws on Malone's background as a writer. Passages from his book 'Jason Smith's Nocturnal Opera', are used as a starting point for the works. They do not seek to illustrate but to explore the interaction between text and image at a more basic level. The title 'Emergence' is a reference to archaeological wall carvings, such as those of the Knights Templar found in forgotten crypts. In a form of reverse archaeology, acrylic paint is applied in various ways, including with spray cans and marker pen, to create layers which slowly reveal fragments of excavated text.
