Emergence

By  Liz Clifford 2020
During Covid-19 lockdown in the UK seedlings had been appearing in places they would usually not survive, including on tracks used by recreational vehicle drivers. This work contains one such sapling, rescued as lockdown began to lift. The beech sapling and moss form the thin upper biomass layer on lower strata of concrete, brick and chalk all caged within a hand-built gabion basket. The gabion basket is a structure associated with geo engineering projects such as the building of flood defences.
