Enemy

My grandfather fought on the Western front in World War 1 and was probably spared his life as a result of being taken a prisoner of war. Whilst captive, he quickly realised that his adversaries were generally young men like himself and that the enemy was something unseen, omnipotent and detached from humanity and common sense.
Enemy is an image of a trepanned skull that has been mirrored, indicating in this sense a dual evil or parallel insanity. The image is screen-printed using ink made from poppy petals, chocolate and mud; substances synonymous with World War 1.
