Euromarket

The Euromarket series explores migration, belonging and the everyday spaces that connect people to home while living elsewhere. Drawing on photographs of European food shops across the UK, the works recreate familiar storefronts through hand embroidery and textiles.

For Madara, these shops hold a particular significance as one of the first places she encountered after moving to the UK where aspects of her own background felt recognisable. This is an ongoing series of work which considers how identity is carried through ordinary objects, food, language and shared spaces, while questioning what it means to build a sense of home away from home.
