Exeter through binoculars

This work was made following a special walk to a tree on the far horizon beyond the city of Exeter. It was part of a project associated with Topos, Exeter, called Towards the Horizon. I was only a participant in this. On reaching the tree after a long walk with the artists who initiated the project and others, we were invited to view our starting point through binoculars. Having recorded this view on my mobile, I set to work making a painting from the blurry image later on. It held more significance to me than had been expected, as I lived in that city for many years, and within the circular view presented, many important life events took place. They were remembered vividly as I worked across the surface of the painting with a solution of lapis lazulae and gum arabic.
