This painting represents an imaginary overhead view of Northern France in winter, taking into account the region's history, and part- informed by googlemap. The 'pointers' are filled with images derived from those taken on a particular journey from Paris to Calais, through the night, in snow, by two different people with an old Leica and new mobile phone respectively.The palette in the painting is informed by the snow-coloured landscape, and sodium-vapour lighting along the route.

The Refuge

This is another work from the ongoing 'Correspondences' series, exploring aspects of the digital world, particularly the internet. It's a larger painting than those I previously made using similar, almost 'Pointillist' or 'Divisionist' methods, and the subject matter is to do with a specific connection with a film. A frame from that film (The Apu Trilogy part 1 director: Satyajit Ray, cameraman: Subatra Mitra) forms the lower layer, and the speckled layer over the top partly obscures this, and…
