This animation/video was first shown in The Sleep of Reason a two person show (with Sylvia Luedtke) in September to October 2013. This animation is part of a collection of works made in response to Goya's etching 'The Sleep of
Reason Brings Forth Monsters'. I worked on these sculptures, 'sculptures to wear' drawings, paintings and animations over a year. One of the last pieces of work was the animation/ video Fasnacht in which I wore sculptures made in response to the dark inner world and demons referred to by Goya. The characters I created are The Three-Eyed Long-Eared Bat Person, Nut/Nuit, Rat Man and Wise Old Man. Fasnacht is a Northern European carnival held during Lent, participants dress up and remain incognito during the festival during which they parade. In some areas they parade and play instruments during the night and are at liberty to insult their neighbours releasing repressed behaviours and thoughts until daybreak.
