Field

This was developed as a research project linked to APT (is there A Place in Time?). Artwork exploring the unique nature of a place inspired through the time frame of an hour. Tape was set up at parallel intervals, 23 feet apart, grid like, marking territory into sections. Wind movement created a number of scenarios, light bouncing off the tape flashed and gave the appearance of light on water, a lake, an energy field, atmospheric interference, a magical force. The oscillating tapes at times seemed to be like farm machinery rapidly moving up and down calling to mind the mechanization of the land, also suggestions of a hoard of locusts bobbling up and down, devouring everything in their path. Other local connections were to trotting poles linking to the thoroughbred horse farm next door and countdown markers (for vehicles) linking to landing strips and the flying club just beyond. In the evening the white tape appeared blue, reflecting the evening sky colours with pinks and yellows also.
