Field ('Reprise' Series)

This painting is one of a series entitled 'Reprise' which experiments in remembering what was once visible, through the process of painting. It explores the way in which memory reconstructs what was once intimately known and seen daily but which is no longer there. It consists of a series of paintings in oil based on memories of the landscape around the hamlet of Alsop-en-le Dale in Derbyshire where I regularly walked during the time I lived there. They revisit a way of working and employ a flat, aerial viewpoint. They reference the tracks and textures, walls and paths and other linear elements of the landscape, and draw on memories of walking around the valley of Alsop-en-le Dale in Derbyshire.
