Flaque Nocturne

By Marianne Walker 2024

Graphite pencil on ink on sculpted paper-clay 2024.

This work resulted from my residency at Atelier 11, the former studio of Modigliani and Soutine, and where Soutine painted his Ox carcasses. It was exhibited as part of my solo presentation of Drawings “Ensemble” for L'AiR Arts for the 2024 Printemps du Dessin in Paris.

It is a metabolisation of a Mater Dolorosa and an urban puddle at night with the artificial light of the city reflected in it. The puddle is alive and grief stricken at humanity's ignorance.
