Flowing Free

By  Liz Sergeant 2019
'Flowing Free' is a 3m x 2m art installation for St John's church Harpenden, as part of Cultivate Arts Festival 23rd-30th June 2019. Now in its second year, Cultivate Arts Festival celebrates the creative arts in all their forms, with an exciting programme of exhibitions, events and activities open to all. This year's theme is generosity. "Flowing Free" symbolises the generosity of the fountain, constantly flowing, giving itself away in order to exist. The theme of the fountain and the water of life was continued throughout the church, as visitors were invited to take a droplet and write about or draw an act of generosity received or given, and add it to the installation. A programme of events (music concerts, spoken word, and family activities) inspired by the installation took place throughout the week. In addition, the local primary school visited the exhibition over two days, and took part in a series of activities on the theme of water, designed to help them to explore, entertain and enjoy the installation.
