Flyingdales

This silent moving image work combines the beginning sequence from a familiar British sitcom with a monolithic architectural structure found in North Yorkshire. The RAF Radar Station ‘Fylingdales’ is part of the United States-controlled Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) which shares intelligence between the United States and United Kingdom. Its primary purpose is to give the British and US governments warning of an impending ballistic missile attack (part of the so-called four minute warning during the Cold War). Its motto is "Vigilamus" ("We are watching").
