For Barcelona

Minimalist painting on canvas with collaged elements, from an extended 'White Series'; evolved as a result of a long process of addition and reduction. Paint and other materials are applied to the picture plane and progressively removed and manipulated; the plastic nature of the surface is paramount, as a 'terrain' to be explored within a deliberately shallow pictorial space. Titles are essentially nominal and referential, this work is an homage to the vibrancy, colour and dynamic of the Catalonian city of Barcelona; a place strongly associated with the Spanish artists Joan Miro and Antoni Tapies, who have been influential in my work and career. Other than this, there are deliberately few figurative references or hints of a physical context.
